Natalie & Alfie the Chihuahua
“Our 'IBD' dog took a turn for the worse when the manufacturer of his regular raw food de-listed the product. I was very worried and at a loss. I turned to Rachel and she got him back on track! She went out of her way to find a replacement food and supported us in getting him eating again and calming his symptoms. Alfie looks healthier than he has for a long time. We are very happy with - and grateful to - Peak Dog Nutrition & Wellness."

"Buster is thriving! Yesterday he was an absolute star. He passed his final assessment to be accepted as a trainee support dog with Support Dogs UK. His handler mentioned how he looked the best he has ever been. She also said that he is now listening more and all the itches and ear irritation has gone."
Fiona & Gromit
"I just wanted to thank you for your help; I doubt we would have managed to sort this on our own. It has been a huge learning curve with lots of new information about dog nutrition. Gromit has improved both physically and seems a much happier engaged dog. He looks younger, his coat is silky, no raw areas, no chomping on his paws or belly and he now sleeps deeply even with builders around! He is behaving better, sleeping deeper and is generally more curious. We have a much better relationship and I'm now armed with sorting his little blips out. Importantly he has managed with no Cytopoint injections for 3 months now. Training has become much easier as he is so engaged with his little searches for sprats and bits of meat in the garden."
Marie & Ruby
"We cannot thank Rachel enough. We were at the end of our tether with Ruby, our Boxer who had suffered for 18 months with horrendous allergies and health problems. She had been pumped full of medications and steroids so had gained a lot of weight and her coat was in a terrible condition. Then we found Rachel and with her expertise and guidance Ruby has been transformed. She is now off all meds and we have transitioned her to raw food and more holistic treatments. All veterinary clinics should have a Rachel. I cannot recommend her enough and will be forever grateful."
Foong & Remi
"This is my first time having a dog, and I thought it was very easy, just feeding the dog, walking the dog, and playing with it. I didn't expect my dog to be afraid of other dogs and become a fussy eater. So every time I go out for a walk and feed, it's the biggest headache for me. Ever since Remi's trainer told me that Remi might have pain, such as her stomach, she introduced Rachel to me. That's when I learned that Remi had gut imbalance. Remi has changed a lot since Rachel gave her a raw diet for 3 months. She not fussy anymore, looks healthier, and less afraid to other dogs. I am very grateful to Rachel for helping me. I'm feel much more confident and relaxed to feeding Remi, and she is much more healthier, happy and more confident. Thank you very much."

What is your background/education in canine nutrition?I have over 20 years’ experience working in the animal care industry, 10 of which have been in canine nutrition directly. I hold an Honours Degree in Bioveterinary Science, in which my Honours Project concentrated on the management of obesity in pet dogs. I have obtained an OFQUAL-regulated Level 3 Diploma in Canine Nutrition, in which I focussed on the effect of diet on the canine gut microbiome. I have completed a mentorship award with the Association of Pet Nutrition Consultants (APNC) and am a registered associate consultant nutritionist with them. I have also previously founded a successful upmarket pet store and ethical dog grooming salon, where I helped numerous dogs and their owners with their dietary choices, as well as behavioural and nutritional issues. I have recently completed a course in Canine Allergies and Intolerances. I attend conferences and take courses year-round to stay abreast of the latest developments in the field and I will continue furthering my knowledge of this fascinating and fast-moving area throughout my career.

How much email support will I receive after my consultation/s?This will depend on which consultation package you choose. Please see the description on the services page. If you have any further queries, don't hesitate to email rachel@peakdognutrition.co.uk or fill out the contact form at the bottom of the webpage.
-
How do the consultations work?Contact me via email (rachel@peakdognutrition.co.uk) or via the contact form at the bottom of the website. I will send out a detailed questionnaire for you to fill in about your dog. Once you have submitted this, I will respond with which plan I think will meet your dog's needs and take payment. Once you're happy, I will write up a detailed proposal and arrange a meeting over zoom to discuss everything with you. Please note, if your dog has health issues, including but not limited to, itchiness, gut problems or recurring ear issues, I will suggest that you book onto the General Health & Wellness Plan as these will require a more in-depth approach.

Are you against a particular type of feeding, eg kibble, raw?No, I am not against any particular type of feeding. I look at each dog as an individual case and assess their needs based on what their symptoms are telling me is going on. I also take into account the needs and preferences of the owner. My approach is holistic and based on up-to-date science, so I always consider the dog and their lifestyle as a whole in order to find and alleviate the root cause and not just mask the symptoms (The short-term fix or 'masking symptoms' approach almost always results in the problem returning, usually to a worse degree than the previous episode). This is why the initial questionnaire I ask clients to complete is so in-depth. I will then make recommendations which I feel will be most beneficial to your dog's overall health status. Sometimes this will involve a change in the type of diet, often as well as certain lifestyle changes. Other times I will just recommend an improvement of the current diet. A 'one size fits all' approach is never appropriate when it comes to canine nutrition.

Are these consults a good alternative to seeking help from a vet?No, these consultations should never replace going to a vet for help and if I feel I cannot help you until you have sought veterinary assistance, I will recommend that you do so first. I am not a vet and am not here to diagnose disease. Veterinary investigations are crucial to finding out if your dog is suffering from any disease, for managing the symptoms and for ongoing monitoring and treatment of the disease progress. These consultations are here to compliment any veterinary treatment, provide a more long-term aid in managing certain health issues and also to help keep your already healthy dog healthy.
-
Are there any hidden costs? No, all my prices are visible on the website under the ‘Consultations & Packages’ heading. As part of the consultation, you will receive a 'Shopping List' from me, with the best value places to buy any supplements or foods I may recommend. From time to time, I will also be able to offer discounts on these for my clients.
-
What is your Cancellation Policy?Consultation Cancellation If cancellation is necessary, we require that you contact us at least 48 hours in advance.
